There is so much to see in Illinois, I recommend primarily as a detour Chicago. The city has a lot to offer a stay of 2-3 days worth.

Its second aim is to offer the Lake Michigan, which can be seen either directly in Chicago or north of the city, where the places are smaller and you can enjoy the outdoors.

If you have a little more time you can look something up in Amish Country. From Springfield from you drive about 120km to place Arthur, the heart of Amish Country in Illinois.

All other highlights are practically on the road on Route 66 or should it be too far away.
